Nature isn’t always kind, especially when animals are abandoned by their parents and families. These three kittens were abandoned and left alone to fend for themselves. Two of the kittens cuddled around their sick sister to keep her alive.
Megan Corbara received a phone call that made her stop in her tracks. Someone had found three helpless kittens and needed her help rescuing them.
She quickly drove to the kittens to help them. However, when she saw the way the kittens were positioned, she knew something was wrong.
Two of the kittens wrapped themselves around a third kitten as if sheltering her from any harm.
“I felt like they were protecting her,” the president of the Naples Cat Alliance, Sorbara said.
There was a reason that the kittens were huddled around their sister. She was too weak to walk and very sick.
Megan brought the three kittens to Naples Cat Alliance where they received medical care and treatment.
The kittens were examined at the shelter. “She has a very pronounced head tile to the left, but she has a very healthy appetite and manages to roll to where she wants to go,” it was observed about the sick kitten. The kittens were named Pistachio and Praline and the white one, Coconut.
To ensure that the kittens received the necessary nutrients, they were bottle-fed. During their recovery, the two cats were still very protective of Coconut.
The center has tried many times to bring the kittens’ mother to them. “We have been back every night trying to get mom but she won’t go in the trap,” Sorbara explained.
“We have trapped at this location before and she has witnessed everyone else going in, so she is what we call trap shy.” As Coconut grew stronger, she was also taken care of by a surrogate mother.
Bitsy, Megan’s lovable pup, stood in as Coconut’s caregiver while the center tried to catch her real mother.
“She is getting stronger and is able to hold her head up straighter than yesterday,” Megan explained. Coconut has been showing great improvements since she was first discovered.
Bitsy makes sure that Coconut gets her daily exercise. Coconut will climb all over Bitsy.
The Search Continues
The team is still searching for the kittens’ mother. They want them to return to their mother, but if that isn’t possible, they’ll have to find a loving home for them.
Their mother was finally reunited with her babies. They named her Vanilla Bean. “The moment we have all been waiting for Coconut, Pistachio, and Praline reunited with their mom, Vanilla Bean,” the center announced.
Hugs All Around
Their mother realized who the kittens were immediately. She snuggled against them and had a beautiful reunion.
After some time, Coconut has fully recovered. It’s like she was never even sick!
After all the time Megan spent helping the cats, she knew she could never give them up. So, she decided to adopt them and give them a permanent home.
All Grown Up
The cats are all grown up now, but still cuddle with each other just like they did when they were small kittens.
Living the Good Life
The cats and Bitsy live happily in Megan’s home and receive the care and love that they deserve.
