How a Sock and Salt Can Cure an Earache

Earaches can ruin your entire day. They can be so painful and debilitating that they can even cause vertigo.

There are a few simple remedies that can make an earache go away without going to the doctor. Here is one home remedy that you never have thought of.

Everyone, at some point, will experience a painful earache. During our busy lives, it can be hard to make it to the doctor and have it checked out. Which is why there are some home remedies that are useful. One of these remedies are actually right on your feet.

Using just cotton socks and salt, you can cure your earache and return to your normal life.

Fill the foot of your sock with a cup and a half of Epsom salt. This course salt has been used in many remedies to heal pain throughout the years.

Make sure you are using coarse salt, that’s important! Pour the salt into the cotton sock.

Pro Tip: use a funnel to easily pour the salt into the sock. If you’d like to make the sock smell nice, add some essential oils.

Next, tie a knot in the sock to keep the salt from falling out.

It’s best to use tube socks for this home remedy so you can tie them.

Place the sock in a skillet on the stove and warm it up on each side. Do not let it get too hot, though.

Do not use a colored sock because the dye can bleed. While you aren’t using any water, heat can strip away the dye.

Once the sock is warmed, place it on your ear and feel your pain get less and less intense until it eventually disappears.

So, how does this work? First, warm salt will relieve any pain. Second, the salt will soak up any water in your ear that is causing your earache.

Another home remedy involves a warm cloth and a cold ice pack. Hold the warm cloth to your ear for 10 minutes, then switch it for the ice pack for another 10 minutes.

For hundreds of years people have put drops of olive oil in their ears when they have earaches. While there is no scientific proof that it works, it’s worth a shot!

You can also use tea tree oil for earaches. This antiseptic, antibacterial, anti-fungal, and anti-inflammatory oil is sure to relieve any pain.

You can also try using ginger! Rub some ginger juice on the ear that is in pain. Do not put it inside your ear.

Some earaches may be caused by pressure on the ear canal, so try doing neck rotations to get rid of the pressure and relieve your pain.
