Buying an old house can be an extremely rewarding purchase or one that can lead to regret. They are filled with potential quirks, oddities, and things to discover, some of which can be good and some of which can be bad.
This man bought a home with an interesting story. When he began to explore the home and basement, he actually found a hidden area by moving a panel on the wall that looked odd.
He hadn’t been in his home long at all when he discovered that a few things looked on in his basement.
When he was looking at this stairs, he could see that a piece of plywood didn’t match the rest.
He went closer to see if he could figure it out.
While he was looking, he noticed that behind the wood, there was a gap before the wall.
He took the plywood off the wall to look behind it.
He found an actual secret room that had been covered by the wood. He immediately saw boxes and a safe and started exploring some more.
He couldn’t immediately open the safe.
When he started looking at the boxes, he realized that they were fun boxes. He was looking at a whole lot of gun boxes.
What was his previous owner doing that required so many guns?
It made him a little uneasy to wonder what was in the locked safe.
It wasn’t just guns; he began to discover ammo boxes as well.
Once he opened them, he realized they were really full with live rounds.
He was just continuing to discover more and more oddities about this whole situation.
What was the previous owner scared of?
Why wasn’t this stuff removed before the house was sold?
The next day, he went back downstairs to continue to see what else he could find.
Before long he found even more ammo and other strange equipment.
He found more ammo while he was looking and other equipment that seemed out of place.
It was honestly unbelievable to him that all of this had been left behind.
He was shocked by the amount of ammo.
It really was enough to begin to fight or run an army.
Whatever this was, it was serious.
As he was opening more boxes, he just kept finding more ammunition.
He also found a small pouch.
Of course when he opened it, it contained even more ammo.
He really needed to get the safe opened to see if something in there helped explain the bizarre amount of weapons and ammo.
He wondered if he really even wanted to know what he had discovered in his own house.
He felt unsure about digging deeper or looking for more information.
As he kept looking, he saw something that made him more concerned that he’d been before.
He found a hand grenade among the belongings.
The grenade had no pin in it and was actually live.
He carefully looked at the weapon and discovered that the powder had been drained. This grenade shouldn’t cause any danger.
He took a moment to breathe a sigh of relief and then opened another ammo box.
This box was filled completely with spare change, most of which were pennies.
He tried again to get in to the safe.
He wasn’t able to open the safe himself. He was chronicling his story on Reddit and said he’d share the contents once he got the same to a locksmith. After 5 months, the story was never continued.
Though that story was never finished, other things have been found under people’s homes. This historic looking well was found under one man’s floorboard.
A secret passageway has also been found. This was under someone’s flooring and thought to have been part of the Underground Railroad.
An entire dungeon type room was found in one couple’s home. That has to be an odd thing to find.
In England, a family found an actual secret chapel under their home.
And while not as large as finding a dungeon or a chapel in your living area, a person found an extremely valuable historic item when they picked up a newspaper from the day after President Kennedy was assassinated. Very interesting things can be found in old houses.
