In 1991, Céline Dion first received a Grammy award for her hit song “Beauty and the Beast”. The popularity of her hit song enabled her to break through the international market. Unfortunately, her French-Canadian fan base became angry about this. Her Quebecois fans felt that they were being neglected, once she gained international success. Céline made the executive decision to not receive the English Artist of the Year award to prove that she was French and not English.
