Lexi Reed has struggled with her weight since she was a child. She tried multiple times to lose the weight, but never succeeded. At the age of 25, she weighed a total of 392 pounds. She knew it was time to make a change.
Lexi met her now husband a decade before marrying him. They had been best friends and eventually had a romantic relationship. Danny always said that he loved Lexi no matter what her size or shape.
Danny also struggled with his weight. He weighed a total of 280 pounds before deciding to make a change. Their life together didn’t consist of athletic activities and mostly just sitting around and eating unhealthy meals.
“Growing up, we never had a lot of money and my parents never cooked. Processed foods were always easier to purchase than healthy foods,” Lexi recalls. She grew up only knowing processed foods, which continued the cycle of eating unhealthily. “I was always an emotional eater, also, and no matter what the mood, food was always there for me,” Lexi said.
Lexi and Danny experienced life differently because of their weight. They couldn’t go for romantic hikes or go biking. So, they decided to spend their time at home. Lexi realized that she didn’t want to be limited by her weight anymore.
Danny popped the question. “He never saw me as my size, asked me to change, or made me feel as anything other than beautiful,” she said. However, at this time she weighed 485 pounds and finding a wedding dress would be difficult.
She wrote, “Nobody knew how to make me feel like a bride, and not my size. Thank god I was strong enough to know my worth, and kept searching for my 34W dress even though I questioned if I would ever find one.”
The couple had a beautiful wedding once she found a dress. They were looking forward to happy lives together. Eventually they talked about starting a family. A pregnancy would be dangerous for Lexi and the baby due to her weight, though.
Even smaller goals seemed impossible for the couple due to their weight. They wanted to travel and visit Harry Potter World in Florida, but they wouldn’t be able to go on any rides.
One Year Later
A year after their wedding, Lexi and Danny noticed how they had been eating unhealthy meals in front of the television. They decided it was time to make a serious change.
Beginning of a Long Journey
In 2016, the couple decided to begin a long journey. They would start working out and learning how to eat healthy meals.
“At first the idea didn’t sound great because it was good going home, sitting down, eating and not having to worry about anything,” Danny recalled. He eventually changed his routine and supported his wife.
Making a Bet
To keep the couple motivated, they wanted their friends to bet on their progress. The rules for the next month were, “no eating out, no soda, no alcohol, no cheat meals, and working out for 30 minutes five times a week.” It was going to be a difficult month.
Lexi said, “We were fed up with the life that we were living and all the things that we weren’t able to do together as a couple. We also feared if we didn’t get our health under control, we would never be able to start a family.”
Hitting the Gym
Lexi and Danny joined a gym for the first time. They started their new routine with 30 minutes a day five times a week. At first, the couple experienced extreme soreness and joint pain.
Right for Them
Finding the right gym is important when going on the journey of getting fit. Lexi was self-conscious at first and wanted to be in a judgment free environment. “I started going there when I got a free trial and – since it was never really crowded, my machine faced the wall (so I didn’t feel like everyone was watching me), and I found a machine called the CrossRamp that didn’t hurt my joints,” Lexi said.
Changing Their Diet
On top of exercising more, the couple also changed their diets. They cooked together and supported each other in eating healthy meals rather than processed foods like frozen pizza.
Lexi and Danny didn’t see their new eating and exercise habits as dieting, but as a lifestyle change. They had to get comfortable living a new life that didn’t include processed foods and sitting on the couch watching television.
Adopting a healthy lifestyle proves to be more successful for people who want to make a change in their fitness.
It’s difficult to make a healthy life change on your own. Lexi and Danny are lucky to have each other as a support system. It’s a tremendous help when someone else is going through it too.
Progress Over Time
As time went on, the couple made more progress in their fitness. Lexi started attending classes at the gym. “I love my Pulse class. I love dancing to my favorite music and not feeling like it’s a workout. We can do a song full of squats and even though my legs are burning, it’s so much fun that I don’t even notice,” she said.
You can see that Lexi’s hard work and dedication is starting to pay off. “If people were going to stare at me because of my weight, I was going to give them a reason to stare by being the hardest worker in the room,” Lexi said about going to the gym.
Danny also made some pretty impressive improvements on himself. He lost about 100 pounds from the time he started changing his lifestyle and becoming more active.
This is what Lexi looked like a year and a half after her decision to live a healthy lifestyle. She had lost 312 pounds as of May 2018. She is extremely proud of herself and the changes she has made.
In 2016, Lexi decided to document her fitness journey on Instagram. Her handle FatGirlFedUp gained over 750,000 followers who love to see her inspiring journey and photos.
The story of how Lexi and Danny met and helped each other get fit went viral on the Internet and news media. They did interviews together and were even featured on an episode of Rachel Ray.
Second Chance at Life
Between Lexi and Danny, the two have lost over 400 pounds since they started their fitness journey. They now have a second chance to enjoy life and do the things they were never able to do because their weight hindered them. They also serve as an inspiration to everyone.
They went back to the beach where Danny proposed and decided to run along the water. The two couldn’t be prouder of themselves.
Dream Come True
The two were able to fulfill one of their dreams after losing the weight. They went to Harry Potter World at Universal Studios in Orlando, Florida.
Free At Last
“I am grateful for every single day and I am enjoying the journey,” Lexi said. “Every day is a non-scale victory and a reminder of how far I’ve come. Like, I loved myself even at 485 pounds, but just to be able to wake up and do whatever I want to do and go wherever I want to go… I don’t feel like I’m a prisoner in my own body anymore.”
Lexi advises other people who want to start a healthy lifestyle to “Start small – small changes add up to big results – and focus on each day, not how far you have to go.”
The couple now runs a YouTube channel to help others lose weight and live healthy lifestyles. “I learned how strong and capable I am as a person. I thought it would take me over three years to 300-plus pounds, but I was so determined and hardworking that I did it in two,” Lexi said.
Happier Than Ever
The couple is happier than ever. “There are no words to explain the feeling of saving your own life. Going into 2018 I have nothing but a newfound happiness for this life I am living. I no longer am a prisoner in my own body and instead of just existing in my own life, I’m finally alive,” Lexi explains.
Lexi’s story was so inspiring that TNT Drama and Loreal Paris invited her to attend the 2018 Screen Actors Guild Awards in Hollywood. The couple were living the life!
Lexi suggests meal prepping your food so you always have something healthy to eat. “I know holidays are hard guys but practice portion control, healthier swaps, balance, and planning,” Lexi wrote on her Instagram.
Keeping Their New Lifestyle
The couple manages to maintain their new healthy lifestyles by incorporating it into everyday activities. For example, they went camping and instead of having hotdogs and hamburgers, they made chicken and avocado.
“Making the time before date night to work on our goals. Somedays we don’t know how we’re gonna do it, but everyday we get it done!” Lexi wrote on her Instagram. Dedication is key to working out.
Lexi had an entire support system behind her. She also loves that she has created a supportive community through social media and her journey. She is able to give advice and tips to people who are also changing their lifestyle.
Through Lexi’s journey, she discovered new friends who also loved fitness. “When I started my journey I normally was more of a loner and lost people I was close to due to my new lifestyle and hobbies,” she said.
It’s important to take rest days and relax from going to the gym. On these days, the couple take their two adorable dogs for a walk. “Can’t wait for more walks with them this summer and we’re sure they are happy mom/dad got healthy too!” she wrote under one picture.
One new hobby the couple found was dirt biking. They say that the best way to get exercise is by doing something fun!
Danny also started and Instagram account, DiscoveringDanny that inspires men to get in shape as well.
The couple is a YouTube sensation. They share videos of their personal lives as well as fitness videos.
The Today Show featured an interview of Lexi and Danny with Megyn Kelly and aired it nationwide. Lexi revealed how she lost the weight naturally without any supplements or surgeries.
Starting a Family
One of the reasons Lexi wanted to get in shape was so that she could have a baby eventually. “In 5 years, I see us starting a family as well as finding ways to help more people change their life the same way that we have with diet and exercise,” she has said.
