You know Jonathan Scott from HGTV on his show Property Brothers. He was born in 1978 and grew up in Vancouver, Canada. He dated the gorgeous Jacinta Kuznetsov for years and it looked like the two would live happily ever after. However, in 2018 they split suddenly and the reason why is devastating.
Jonathan works with his brother on Property Brothers, a show that remodels homes. With his savvy real estate skills, Jonathan has really made a name for himself.
Before he was a super real estate star, Jonathan switched around jobs a lot. He had big dreams though. Once he got a taste for real estate, there was no going back.
Growing up, Jonathan had a talent for many things, such as magic tricks. He also wanted to own an independent film company one day. His dreams were as big as the homes he remodels.
To ensure that he always had work, Jonathan decided to go into real estate. He focused mostly on property development. While attending school, he paired up with his brother, Drew, to buy, renovate, and sell a house.
There was some doubt about their project making any money at all. “Our agent said it couldn’t be done. We did it. We bought a $220,000 house and lived for a year rent-free and made $40,000 or $50,000 when we sold a year later,” Drew explained. “After continually being told by Realtors that it’s impossible to do certain investments, and then proving them wrong, we decided to license and do it ourselves.”
After getting to know the business and putting in some seriously hard work, the brothers landed their show Property Brothers.
Their show focused on finding people the perfect home, helping them customize it and make it their own, all while staying within their budget. The show gained tons of popularity and the brothers took on different projects such as writing books and radio shows.
Jonathan met Jacinta Kuznetsov in 2015 when they met at a charity event. Jonathan says that the relationship was “truly special.”
As happy couples do, Jonathan took to Instagram to show off his girlfriend and the fun that they have together. Jonathan even had Jacinta on his show.
The couple was so in love with each other, Jonathan told People in 2017, “We definitely want to get married and have kids, but we’re just finding joy in our relationship and still learning about each other as well. We’ve only been dating a year and a half, but I don’t think we’ll wait seven years like Drew did before we decided what we’re going to do.”
Unfortunately, those plans wouldn’t work out. In 2018 the couple split suddenly. According to Jonathan, there are no hard feelings between them.
In an Instagram post, Jonathan wrote, “When I met Jacinta in the fall of 2015, I met somebody kind and courageous and a champion for human/animal rights. We grew to respect each other fiercely and know that will remain unchanged for the rest of our lives. Sometimes life takes you on unexpected paths and those paths aren’t always in the same direction.”
Jonathan ended his message with, “There’s no drama or negativity; no jealousy or hate. Not even sadness or sorrow. Our memories are filled with joy and we will continue to advocate for each other as friends wherever we go.”
Jacinta also took to social media and wrote, “An abundance of love for J has been a beautiful and rewarding time of my life. However, life is funny and sometimes chapters change and this one has.”
It continued, “We have deep love and respect for one another but have gone separate ways. I lovingly reflect on everything we accomplished together and am so proud of who he is and the love we gave each other.”
“We will continue to be a part of each other’s lives as friends, and never stop planning what greatness we can create in this world,” she finished her post.
This isn’t the first time Jonathan has experienced heartbreak. In fact, he was married in 2007 to Kelsy Ully, a crew scheduler of Westjet.
Just two years later, the couple filed for divorce. “I think that one of the biggest things I learned is that you can have two good people who are just not good for each other,” he said in an interview about the marriage.
Jonathan hasn’t let the breakup interfere with his passion and career. He is starting a new show with his brother titled Property Brothers at Home: Drew’s Honeymoon House.
Jonathan stays busy with work and will hopefully find the right person for him to spend the rest of his life with. Until then, he will be working on Property Brothers: Linda & Drew Say I Do and spending time doing what he loves.
