Delicate, crumbling, or peeling nails is an uncomfortable condition to deal with. The cause could be something as simple as a vitamin deficiency such as vitamin B7 (also known as biotin), which is essential for healthy nails. This type of deficiency can be fixed by taking a regular multivitamin. However, delicate nails could also be a symptom of nail psoriasis or thyroid problems. Those that have hypothyroidism usually suffer with soft nail beds and/or broken, dry nails. The white part of the bottom of the nail also typically disappears due to low thyroid hormone levels.
